Fun Things To Do In Jersey Shore, NJ
Attractions, Sightseeing and Events
OCEAN COUNTY is a 40 mile long seashore destination offering 3 diverse vacation areas: POINT PLEASANT BEACH with its mile long boardwalk and rides, fun house, adventure miniature golf, Jenkinson's Aquarium, the River Belle Mississippi Paddlewheeler, deep sea fishing, and a downtown with more than 100 independent antique dealers;
SEASIDE HEIGHTS with a mile long boardwalk lined with shops, two amusement piers, antique carousel and fishing adjacent to the undeveloped 1-1/2 mile long SEASIDE PARK boardwalk and Island Beach State Park, 10 miles long & looking much the way it did when Henry Hudson sailed up the coast.
LONG BEACH ISLAND, 20 miles long and no boardwalks, but miles of boutique shops, the professional Surflight Theatre, Fantasy Island Amusement Park, Barnegat Lighthouse State Park and Viking Village with its dock tours, & shops. The mainland activities include the nation's largest regional trio of amusement parks: Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Wild Animal Safari and Six Flags Hurricane Habor. Add to that the Tuckerton Seaport is a 40-acre working maritime museum, the Philadelphia Phillies-Affiliated baseball team, the Lakewood BlueClaws, the Robert J. Novin's Planetarium, the bugseum Insectropolis, and the historic Strand Theater. For history buffs, there are two dozen museums including the toms River Seaport Society featuring indigenous seacraft invented to sail the shallow waters of the area, New Jersey Museum of Boating, and the New Jersey Maritime Museum which contains an extensive collection of SCUBA rescued artifacts and a room dedicated to the Morro Castle which sunk off the state's coast (NJ's Titanic). At the Joint Base/McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the Navy Lakehurst Historic Society pays tribute to Navy Lakehurst, its lighter than air history and the tragedy of the Hindenburg crash. Since 9-11, only US citizens are able to take the comprehensive tour which tells the history of the base and its future as the worldclass experts in aircraft platform interface. At its western boundaries the county offers a trio of u-pick farms, Laurita Winery and in stark contrast the New Egypt Speedway, home of a leading stock car dirt track. The 80 square mile Barnegat Bay abounds in water sports from para-sailing, banana boats, sail and motor boats, Stand Up Paddling, windsurfing, kitesurfing, canoeing, kayaking, and in the ocean swimming, & surfing. Or you can bring a chair & a good book to the beach, tuck your toes in the sand, & RELAX.
