Description | Chicago French Market is proud to host a celebration, as the 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau wines are unveiled on Beaujolais Nouveau Day, Thursday November 16th. Guests are invited to stroll through the Market while enjoying the first tastes of cherry-red colored vintage Beaujolais Nouveau wines, created by Gamay grapes, and listen to live music.
• Join Pastoral for free tastings from 4 – 6 p.m. with their Beverage Director and Certified Sommelier — Kit Hamlen, who will sample the 2017 Joseph Drouhin Beaujolais Nouveau paired with a selection of French cheeses and chat about all things Gamay.
• Frietkoten Bar will be popping the corks on these new wines all day, selling four 2017 Beaujolais Nouveau wines by the glass ($7) or a flight of all four for $10.
• Live music will be played throughout the day including Genevieve French Duo from 12 – 2 p.m. and music from Anselmo Marque from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m.
• Attendees can sign up for a Chicago French Market drawing for a happy hour for up to 10 guests with beer and wine from Frietkoten and cheeses from Pastoral, or one of each of the four 2017 vintage Beaujolais Nouveau bottles from Frietkoten. No purchase is necessary.
Â
Beaujolais Nouveau Day is marked in France on the third Thursday in November with fireworks, music and festivals. Under French law, the wine is released at 12:01 a.m.; just weeks after the wine's grapes have been harvested. Parties are held throughout the country to celebrate the first wine of the season.
In the United States, it is promoted as a drink for Thanksgiving, which always falls exactly one week after the wine is released.
