DescriptionA permanent memorial to 29 men killed in an explosion at the Upper Big Branch Coal Mine. The UBB Miners Monument is 48' long and made from American Black Granite. The life-size silhouettes of twenty-nine men are etched on the front while a history of coal, a tribute to all miners and the names of all twenty-nine victims killed at Upper Big Branch are listed on the back.

The surrounding plaza also includes a bronze First Responders and Mine Rescue tribute as well as interpretive signage detailing the disaster and a timeline of events that took place in the days after the explosion.
