DescriptionThis is the worldwide home of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, founded in 1879 by Mary Baker Eddy. The original building of the church was constructed in 1894. A large domed extension was added in 1906. Inside the church is one of the world’s largest pipe organs with a total of 13,384 pipes.

The publishing house, where The Christian Science Monitor is published, also houses The Mary Baker Eddy Library. The building is best known for a three-story stained-glass globe of the world called the Mapparium®. It is viewed by walking through the center on a bridge.

The Plaza also features a large reflecting pool, iconic modernist architecture, and outdoor recreation areas. A self-guided walking tour is available for mobile devices.

Ongoing Activities:
- Free church Tours and Organ concert throughout the year
- The Mapparium® is available for view on a paid tour only. Tours take place seven days a week, running every 20 minutes and lasting 15-20 minutes. Admission to each tour is on a first-come, first-served basis. Photography and videography are not allowed inside the Mapparium.

Annual Programs include:
SPRING
APRIL SCHOOL VACATION WEEK program includes a week of free activities for youths that highlight the theme of the Library’s new lobby exhibit as well as educates children and their families about incorporating inspirational ideas in their everyday lives. During this program, tours of the Mapparium and admission to the Library are free for visitors ages 17 and under.

SUMMER
ONE WORLD, the Library's annual summer enrichment program, includes various arts activities designed to connect children to the Library's historical collections. Each week we feature a unique musical performance, a book giveaway, and free admission to the world-famous Mapparium for youths up to the age of 12.

FALL
OPENING OUR DOORS is Boston's largest single day of free cultural events, held annually on Columbus Day. The Mary Baker Eddy Library hosts performances by local music groups and offers numerous all-day family activities such as seasonally themed crafts, face painting stations, storytelling, and scavenger hunts.

WINTER
FEBRUARY SCHOOL VACATION WEEK program includes a week of free activities for youths which promotes exploration and scholarship of the Library’s vast collections through various activities. During this program, tours of the Mapparium and admission to the Library are free for visitors ages 17 and under.
