DescriptionStately Oaks Plantation consists of a Greek revival home built in 1839 and other historical buildings. It is the official home of Margaret Mitchell (author of Gone With The Wind) Memorial Park. It has been lovingly preserved by the society of Historical Jonesboro/Clayton County Inc., a nonprofit organization for the preservation and education of the history of Jonesboro, Clayton County, Ga. and surrounding areas. Besides the plantation house, you will enjoy the one room Bethel Schoolhouse, Juddy's Country Store, a tenant cabin, kitchen, outhouse, barn, Native American Indian Village, and more.

Your first stop after entering the gates at Stately Oaks is at Juddy's Country Store where you can enjoy the charm of days gone by, reminiscing about life from your growing up days and enjoy seeing things that were around even before your time. This is the place where you buy your tickets for tours of the plantation house, buildings and grounds. Not only the grown-ups but the children really get a thrill out of seeing things from long ago - a good way to experience a living history lesson. While in the store take time to pick up something for yourself, family and friends, as the store is still in operation and has a variety of things to buy - both things of the past and things of the present; including, souvenirs, books, jewelry, courting candles, pictures, Gone With The Wind memorabilia, bug catchers, games and many more items. Refresh with a coke in a bottle and moon pie - does this bring back memories for you?

The Plantation House Tours are an experience from the past! You will be guided by either Docents who are dressed in period costumes or Tour Guides. They will tell and show you about some history of this house built in 1839 and of life in the mid-1800s.

The park is open for tours Monday - Saturday from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm. The last house tour which includes the other buildings and grounds begins at 3:00 p.m. and the other buildings and grounds self-guided tours are open until 4:00 pm.
