DescriptionThe Buggy Museum offers a modern visitor center with introductory video, hands-on work bench, exhibit on Mifflinburg, buggy making and the Heiss family. The Visitor Center also contains temporary exhibits (2 a year), a build a (miniature) buggy station for children, gift shop and restrooms. For visitors looking for a longer more complete experience, take the guided tour through the original historic buildings - the Heiss family home, built in 1870 and fully furnished with many original family pieces; the carriage house, a reconstructed garage featuring a buggy for visitors to try out; the original buggy factory where William Heiss made buggies, sleighs and wagons from 1883 until 1920. The factory is considered one of 12 industrial sites with an intact collection (all the equipment and parts were here when the Museum opened). The guided tour ends at the Repository, which was the buggy showroom. The Museum also provides walking tours of Mifflinburg, has special events that include buggy rides and co-hosts a summer history camp for children between 5 and 12 each July.
