Description | Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, was born in the Texas Hill Country and he returned to his beloved home at every opportunity. Today, visitors can walk in his footsteps and relive history at the LBJ State and National Parks and Historic Site. There is something for everyone at the LBJ State Park and Historic Site. The Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm is an operating farm that depicts life in the Hill Country at the turn of the century. There is also the Paseo del Arroyo Nature Trail, game enclosures with deer, longhorns and buffalo, outstanding spring wildflower fields, picnic areas, playgrounds, fishing opportunities along the Pedernales River, historic log cabins and more. The National Park Service operates the LBJ Ranch and offers public access to the ranch, Texas White House, LBJ's birthplace, Johnson family cemetery, old Junction School, LBJ's grandparents' home and ranch showbarn. Visit the LBJ State Park Visitor Center between 9AM and 4:15PM for a free ranch driving permit. Guided NPS ranger tours of LBJ's office and home are offered from 10AM to 4PM daily for $2. The LBJ State and National Parks are located 16 miles east of Fredericksburg in Stonewall, Texas. |
