Today you can visit the Dalton Freight Depot and Visitors Center and watch up to 50 trains a day come by on the parrallel tracks of the CSX and Norfolk Southern and cross on the "Dalton Diamond" - a diamond shaped crossing of the 2 railroads directly in front of our train viewing platform. You can also have lunch in the 1852 Western & Atlantic Depot home of the famous and wonderful Dalton Depot and Restaraunt. After lunch head to Tunnel Hill just north of Dalton and walk through the oldest railroad tunnel in the South. The Western & Atlantic Tunnel provides guided tours to visitors as you walk through the entire lenghth of this quarter mile long engineering wonder completed in 1850. If shopping is your idea of fun, then Dalton has a great combination of cute downtown shops and boutiques, outlet mall, traditional mall and literaly dozens of floor covering and carpet outlets can keep you busy looking for bargins all weekend. The mountains and streams around Dalton provide visitors with ample opportunities to get outdoors. The Rasin Woods Mountain Bike Trail as well as a map of dedicated bicycle paths throughout the area keep cyclists busy and there is the Pinhoti and Disney Trails for hiking. The city owned Nob North Golf Course is one the top rated public courses in the country. With dozens of great hotels and restaraunts located around Walnut Avenue and I-75 you can park your car and walk the sidewalks to your favorite spot.
