Newly restored farmhouse, birthplace of America’s greatest poet, built c.1819 by Whitman’s father. New York State Historic Site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Nineteenth century furnishings, unusual architecture. Interpretive Center exhibits: 130 Whitman portraits, original letters, manuscripts, artifacts, Whitman’s voice on tape, and schoolmaster’s desk. Guided tours, audio-visual show, library, museum shop/bookstore, and picnic area. Maps available for auto/hiking tour of beautiful historic West Hills. Air-conditioned Visitors Center and restrooms. All facilities handicapped accessible. Poetry readings, lectures, concerts, special events year round.
