DescriptionMount Gulian Historic Site in Beacon will hold its 28th Annual History Dinner. This living-history event is open to the public and will present explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, heads of “The Corps of Discovery.”

The evening will showcase a catered affair, including a sumptuous four-course dinner inspired by the cuisine of Lewis and Clark’s expedition. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served on the scenic riverside lawn prior to dinner. Actors Doug Thomas and Steve Edenbo, of the American Historical Theatre, will portray our honored guest. Diners will be invited to view the world of the early days of America and its expansion through the eyes of these remarkable men.

In April 1803, the United States acquired 828,000 square miles of land west of the Mississippi River in the Louisiana Purchase Treaty. The newly-purchased land resulted in the United States doubling in size. With much to be explored and discovered, President Thomas Jefferson formed “The Corps of Discovery” as the core of Captain Meriwether Lewis and Second Lieutenant William Clark’s expedition of the Territory of Louisiana. From May 14, 1804 – September 23, 1806, Lewis & Clark led their expedition through the Territory of Louisiana, westward to the Pacific Coast, and returned to St. Louis after 862 days.

Meet two of our nation’s great explorers and hear their stories of how the United States, still in its infancy, began its exploration of new land and new opportunities. A conversation with Lewis and Clark is an opportunity like no other to understand how dangerous, yet important, their expedition and its contributions were to our newly-formed nation.

The dinner, prepared by Bridgecreek Catering, will be served in Mount Gulian’s 18th century Dutch barn. Tickets are $185 per person. Prepaid reservations are required by May 9, 2024.
