Description | LBJ State Park and Historic Site honors a Texan who achieved the nation's highest office. The over 700 acre park is located along the Pedernales River and has something for everyone. It features historical exhibits of President Johnson and Mrs. Johnson; historical German Log Cabins; State of Texas Official Longhorn Herd; Am. Bison Herd; Nature Trails with seasonal wildflowers; picnic area; park store; swimming pool; and much more. Visitors can tour between 8AM and 4:30PM the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm. Groups of 15 people or more should book in advance a one hour guided tour by calling 830-644-2252 EXT. 229. Here costumed interpreters carry out the day-to-day activities of a turn-of-the-century Texas German farm family. Farm animals like chickens, hogs, sheep, and milk cows can be seen as well as a seasonal garden. Visitors should stop at the Visitor Center Complex first when they arrive to the park to obtain their free driving permit and map. Here they can also enjoy the 24 minute film; exhibits, and a great park store and gift shop before doing the LBJ National Historical Park driving tour of the LBJ Ranch and Texas White House (9AM-4:15PM). The state park also hosts many special events throughout the year. The park is located 16 miles east of Fredericksburg, TX. off HWY290. For more Park Information call (830)644-2252. |
