| Description | Discover how the west was once at Canada's largest living history museum, Heritage Park Historical Village. The Park is split into four different periods that represent the settlement of Western Canada from the 1860s to the 1950s. From May until October guests can visit a bustling 1910 Historical Village, an 1880s rustic pre-railway Settlement and an 1860s Aboriginal Encampment and Hudson Bay Company Fur Trading Fort. They can explore the Park by foot, horse-drawn wagon or on a thundering steam train. The Park features 180 historical exhibits and hundreds of costumed townsfolk that are eager to invite them into their homes and shops to experience how life was like on the western prairies. Heritage Park features an antique midway, a working blacksmith and printing press, Calgary's only paddlewheel boat, streetcar and working steam train. There are numerous food venues throughout the Park that range from upscale Canadian cuisine to midway hot dogs and cotton candy. During the winter months when the historical village is closed for the season guests can explore Gasoline Alley Museum, a bright and beautiful two-story museum featuring a large collection of restored vintage vehicles, gas pumps and signs. There is a cafe, restaurant and five shops also open year round. |
