Description | A center dedicated to teaching and preserving the heritage and life of the Geechee culture. Geechee Kunda is a living museum filled with African art, textiles, paintings, tools and craft work used by the Gullah Geechees from the 1700s to the 1900s. Located in Riceboro, a former rice and indigo plantation, Geechee Kunda is home to numerous artifacts. The museum also features local artisans, singers, shouters and dancers at community events which are held throughout the year. The Geechee Gullah Shouters are made up of five generations of dancers. The site is manned during the week but please schedule any appointments prior to visiting! |
