DescriptionThe Borax Visitor Center is located in Boron, California, at the edge of California's largest open pit mine. The Visitor Center mission is to educate the public about the important role of mining and minerals in their daily lives.

Seven interior exhibits take the visitor through the geology of the pit, and provide details about the mining and processing of borate ores, our distribution process and our environmental and safety programs. "Borax at Home" displays the hundreds of products that use borax, and our Heritage exhibit explores the past and our original holdings in Death Valley and the historical "Death Valley Days" TV series.

A gift shop offers minerals from Kern County, mineral education materials, and Borax and Twenty Mule Team logoed gifts.

Exterior exhibits include an original Twenty Mule Team wagon set, a 240-ton haul truck, and a mineral collection area where guests may collect their own borate minerals.

The Visitor Center is open 7 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, excluding major holidays. Gate fees are $1.00/motorcycle, $2.00/passenger vehicle, and $10.00/bus. Schools on organized field trips are admitted free of charge.
