Sacramento California Tourism At a GlanceBest Time to Visit Sacramento California Anytime is a great time to visit Sacramento. Although, if you are an aficionado of parks and zoos you might want to avoid the hottest months and skip January when it rains the most --- the outdoor lovers will like every other season. Sacramento is a great starting point for some of the attractions that draw tourists to California --- Lake Tahoe, Yosemite National Park, and the Gold Country are all easily accessible. The California State Fair is held in Sacramento from mid-August through Labor Day weekend. Click Here to find hotels in Sacramento. If you need additional visitor information for Sacramento, Click Here. Average Sacramento Weather Warm, dry summers and mild winters characterize Sacramentos climate. December and January temperatures range from the low 50s to the high 30s. January gets the most precipitation, averaging almost four inches. July and August are hot and dry with highs in the 90s. Transportation American Airlines, America West, Delta, Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Trans World and United all have regularly scheduled service to Sacramento International Airport. Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National car rental agencies all have outlets at the airport. Many area hotels have courtesy vans. Super Shuttle Pickup is at the ground transportation area for Terminal A and at the curb in front of Terminal B. You can contact Super Shuttle at (800) 258-3826 for fare and schedule information. Taxi service is available right outside Terminal A baggage claim and across from the airport hotel for Terminal B. Public transportation is not a good option for visitors who want to get out and about Sacramento. Either opt for car rental or resign yourself to taxi fares. In-Season Costs A plethora of high-priced tempting restaurants may lure you to overspend in Sacramento. However, travelers on a budget will be pleased to find outlets of many mid-priced chains in town. Do expect to spend at least $30 per person in one of Sacramentos eclectic upscale eateries during your stay. The state capital is a pricey town, and finding a room for under $90 a night should be considered a bargain. If you see an Internet special for Sacramento --- grab it! And prepare to spend your money on either a rental car or taxi fare. California Tourism - Sacramento Attractions, Activities and Day Trips Wine country --- the delicious flavors and scenic vistas of Napa and Sonoma Valley are less than 60 miles from Sacramento. Hundreds of wineries dot the countryside. If possible take this trip on a weekday when the wineries are less crowded. From Sacramento take I-80 West to the CA-12 exit toward Napa/Sonoma. Merge onto Jamison Canyon Road, stay straight and pick up the Napa Vallejo Hwy. If you have a hankering for height, numerous hot air balloon companies offer airborne tours of the region. During the spring the wildflowers are delightful. No matter when you visit, even during the summer when the temperature soars, be certain to stuff your jacket in the car, evening temperatures are breezy and cool year round. As an alternative to driving you can ride the Napa Valley Wine Train through the area. Contact them at 707-253-2111 for information.
