Immerse yourself in Crawford County, PA's creative landscape … where the arts bring to life the sights and sounds of rural Pennsylvania. Meadville Council on the Arts is the place to begin your exploration of the local art scene. They hold live music and theatre performances at the Gardner Theatre in the historic Meadville Market House. Their art gallery, the Heeschen Gallery, holds monthly exhibits from both local and nationally known artists. You can become a member of the Council for as little as $20 and receive discounts on classes such as piano lessons, mosaic making, painting, beading and more. Stroll next door to the Artists Cup Café, where every month, the art gallery at Meadville Fine Art Prints features a different local artist displaying their unique and colorful wares. Items are available for purchase and it’s a fantastic way to support local artisans in their expression of the unique and often pristine beauty of northwestern PA. Take a relaxing drive out to MJ Ervin Studio in Guys Mills, owned by artist Marilyn Ervin. Her gallery features fine art originals and prints, including limited edition prints of the Hotel Conneaut and the beach at Conneaut Lake Park. These prints are for sale and part of the proceeds go towards restoring Conneaut Lake Park to its former glory. Marilyn is also glad to answer any questions you may have about her creative process and even offers a demonstration. Get lost in the endless selection of handmade pottery at Campbell Pottery Store & Stonewall Gallery. They even host events and guest artists throughout the year for demonstrations and juried art exhibits. “Celebrate lilies both real and imagined” at their annual Lily Fest and Juried Art Show, held annually in July and August. Acres of daylilies in a rainbow of different colors bloom and inspire artists to create lily-themed artwork in different mediums including photography, sculpture, watercolor and more. We’d also like to introduce you to potter Frank Stofan at The Potter’s House in Venagno. Using unique processes involving ashes and glazes, he creates unique and individual pieces that have a character all their own. Visit his studio and find a work of art to call your own.
