Pickens County Georgia is the Marble Capital of Georgia, and by some accounts considered to be the marble capital of the world. Marble mined from the Georgia Marble Quarry is found in prominent cities, including Washington DC and New York City. A Georgia Marble Museum details the history of Georgia's marble and is open to the public. Tours of the quarry are held once a year at Pickens County's Georgia Marble Festival, held the first weekend in October. The county will host its 36th Marble Festival in October 2016. Other fall festivals include the Sheriff's Jeep Fest which registers more than 2,000 jeep participants from all over the country; Heritage Days in quaint Talking Rock; and Tate Days annual festival. Pickens County is surrounded by a backdrop of mountains that attracts hikers, bikers, and visitors who enjoy its southern charm, hospitality, and fresh, clean air. Just a short drive from Atlanta!

In historic Pickens County, follow the Trail of Tears (the forced removal of the Cherokee Indians to western reservations). See the tools and visit the homes of its earliest North Georgia settlers. Learn about North Georgia's mountain culture. Be surprised how Georgia marble shapes your life. While it was used to construct the Lincoln Memorial and marble columns for the U.S. Capitol, you may also have put marble in your mouth this morning as an essential ingredient in toothpaste. Tour the "only jail you'll want to visit" - complete with gallows. Visit the one room schoolhouse and teaching museum, eat in the old theater, stay at a 19th century inn. Take a downtown historic walking tour that includes ten of Jasper's most historic buildings. The city has a fine example of old architecture, making downtown Main Street quiet charming.

Attend an event, wedding, or tour the Tate House. Named one of the top "must see" places in Georgia by Georgia Magazine, the beautiful pink marble mansion, listed as the Pink Palace on the National Register of Historic Places, is one of the most photographed private homes in Georgia.
Wine Tastings! Visit the vineyard, taste the fine wines, and enjoy fun and organized events at vineyards and wineries in Pickens County. Five vineyards in and bordering Pickens County form the heart of Ellijay Wine Country.
In the mountains of North Georgia, bordering Cherokee and Pickens counties is a world-class destination garden just waiting to be discovered. 220 acres of artistically landscaped gardens set in Georgia's rolling hills, surrounded by majestic forest, spring fed ponds, streams, waterfalls, and bridge crossings.
And finally, spectacular scenery and hiking trails make Amicalola Falls State Park & Lodge one of Georgia's most popular state parks. At 729 feet, Amicalola Falls is the tallest cascading waterfall in the Southeast. Driving over Burnt Mountain in Pickens County to Amicalola Falls is breathtaking!

Pickens County is approximately 60 miles north of the Atlanta Hartsfield International Airport or approximately 60 miles south of the Chattanooga Airport. A regional Pickens County airport is also located in Jasper.

Fall festivals are popular in September and October while the weather is warm but not hot, cool but not chilly. The temperature in Pickens County and the North Georgia mountains is typically ten degrees less than in the city.
