DescriptionTake a journey back in time to when aircraft were spectacular and heroes never let us down. The Military Aviation Museum displays and owns the largest flying collection of WWI and WWII Military Aircraft in the U.S.A. Hear the stories and learn about the contributions of the men and women of military aviation to our country. Learn about a historic aircraft each Saturday in the summer and then watch if fly.
The Military Aviation Museum displays and provides a permanent home for more than sixty-three Second World War and earlier vintage flying aircraft. The Museum’s ongoing mission is to preserve, restore, and fly these historic aircraft and to give a new generation the experience to learn what their parents, grandparents, and great grandparents might have endured on the lonely airfields and factories, and in the skies so very far from home.
The Military Aviation Museum is truly a living museum and our five large hangars and display areas in place continue to grow. Several aircraft have completed full restoration and have been added to the museum’s collection. An actual German hangar from WWII, brought over from Cottbus Germany has been installed and now houses a very diverse collection of Luftwaffe aircraft. The original RAF Goxhill Operations Tower has completed reconstruction on our airfield and has the look and feel the way it did in 1942 when the first U.S. Army Air Corp pilots arrived in England in WWII.
Throughout the spring, summer and fall, take a ride in an open cockpit biplane and experience the thrill of the wind blowing though your hair as you fly over the same dunes and back bay that our young warriors flew preparing for war in WWII. Listen to the inspiring stories of the women’s war effort and the hardships that they endured. Learn what life was like in Virginia Beach during the 40’s. Talk to the Museum’s pilots and veterans to learn not just aircraft facts and performance figures, but the stories they tell of the brave men and women who flew and maintained them. Have your group or individual photo taken with a pilot next to your favorite plane. Tour our store for aviation gifts and clothing embroidered with our historic planes.
Arrange your tour to coincide with our May Warbirds Over the Beach Air Show or the October Biplanes & Triplanes Air Show. Come picnic to the sounds of a symphony orchestra as vintage warbirds soar overhead to the tune of your favorite aviation movies and television shows during our June Flying Prom.
