| Description | Manassas, VA, Rooftop Productions presents the comedy, “By the Way, Meet Vera Stark” at the Kellar Family Theatre at the ARTfactory.
In a new comedy from the Pulitzer Prize–winning playwright of Ruined, Lynn Nottage draws upon the screwball films of the 1930s to take a funny and irreverent look at racial stereotypes in Hollywood. BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK is a seventy-year journey through the life of Vera Stark, a headstrong African-American maid and budding actress, and her tangled relationship with her boss, a white Hollywood star desperately grasping to hold on to her career. When circumstances collide and both women land roles in the same Southern epic, the story behind the cameras leaves Vera with a surprising and controversial legacy scholars will debate for years to come.
The production is directed by AnuRa Harris, assistant directed by Melissa York-Tilley, produced by Kimberly Kemp, and stage managed by Lauren Hatmaker.
Performances are in the Kellar Family Theatre at the ARTfactory in Old Town Manassas for two weekends on the following dates and times:

The ARTfactory was founded in 1984 by a group of artists and art lovers with the goal of enriching the quality of life in the Northern Virginia region. In 2002, the ARTfactory relocated to the Hopkins Candy Factory building in Manassas and has become the cornerstone of the downtown arts community. Currently, we offer an art gallery, theatre arts, visual arts education, dance classes, Arts on the Go™, summer camps and SummerSounds Concert Series.
The ARTfactory is home to 3 theatre companies: Rooftop Productions, Pied Piper Theatre, and Prime Time Players.
