Description | The quaint farming community of Tiffin, Ohio is home to one of the area’s true treasures. Billed as Tiffin’s “Quarter of a Million Dollar Movie Palace,” The Ritz Theatre was built in1928. This Italian Renaissance theatre was designed by Peter M. Hulsken under the direction of local owners, Dan Kerwin and Adam Ritzler (after whom the theatre was named). The vaudeville movie palace saw the end of vaudeville, glowed under the movie boom of the 40s and weathered troubled times in the 70s. After a group of concerned citizens bought the theatre in 1981, the theatre was reborn.
Amazingly, over the years the theatre’s interior had not been changed from its original form, but a major renovation was needed. In November of 1996 with a $4.3 million capital campaign, the renovation was under way. In February of 1998, The Ritz Theatre reopened and today is one of the premier historic theatres in the country.
As a non-profit organization, our mission is to entertain and enrich people by providing an historic center for creative expression, education, social interaction, and community development. We hope to communicate and promote an appreciation of theatre and a greater understanding of our heritage and culture through a diversity of programs designed to benefit the people of Northwest Ohio.
