Twenty- six thousand people lived in Virginia City in the late 1800s. The mining industry in Virginia City paved the way for the western expansion and contributed to the economic success of the United States. Virginia City money rebuilt that town by the Bay - San Francisco after the great earthquake, laid the Transatlantic Cable and was the beginning of many powerful family fortunes including the Hearst legacy. Virginia City today welcomes over one million visitors each year to Step Back in Time and create a special family/friend memory. Virginia City is one of largest historical districts in the United States. The town provides hours of an interactive adventure into Nevada's Wild West. Visit museums and venues and experience the mining artifacts actually used in the eighteen hundreds to explore the hills for gold and silver. Don't miss a visit to the National Peace Officer's Museum featuring artifacts from the United States most fascinating police officers and criminals including the death mask of the gangster, Al Capone.
