Description | Verde Canyon Railroad offers a lovely wilderness excursion into an area of extreme natural beauty, following the curves of the Verde River, 20 miles up through a red rock canyon, full of unusual geology, abundant wildlife, lush greenery, and Native-American ruins, on vintage rails aboard vintage train cars. There is something wonderful to be seen each season, and the train runs year-round. The trip is approximately 4 hours, round-trip. While passengers are seated to climate-controlled indoor cars, everyone also has access to adjacent open-air viewing cars for full immersion into the awe-inspiring scenery of this wild western canyon.
Traveling a historic line completed in 1912 for the copper mining industry out of Jerome, Verde Canyon Railroad has been a scenic wilderness excursion since 1990, and has carried over 2.5 million passengers aboard "Arizona's Longest-Running Nature Show", sharing a glimpse of an Arizona seldom-seen: the rare high desert riparian ribbon between the rails and the river. |
