Area Overview
Winona is located in the Mississippi river valley surrounded by bluffs that tower 500 feet above us. The Mississippi River is a 1/4 of a mile wide. A beach on the main channel of the Mississippi River is accessed at Latsch Island Park but is not staffed by lifeguards. There are two Lakes within the city limits with a paved walking and biking path.

Winona enjoys a strong arts movement, with museums, theatre and musical offerings including the Winona Municipal band, MN Beethoven Festival, the Great River Shakespeare Festival, Frozen River Film Festival, Mid West Music Festival, Boats and Bluegrass Festival, the Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winona County History Center and many cultural offerings from Saint Mary's University and Winona State University.

Attractions

There are many attractions ranging from parks to museums to river boat cruises. We have a world class art museum called the Minnesota Marine Art Museum which features Picasso, Van Gogh and Georgia O'Keefe. The museum is surrounded by acres of native prairie gardens. Lake Park, in the heart of Winona, features a 6 mile paved path around Lake Winona. Two state parks are within 12 miles of Winona. A winery showcases wine that is stilled from cold climate grapes.

Transportation |

The Amtrak runs along the Great River Road and stops at multiple cities along the Mississippi River with an Amtrak station in Winona. There is an airport in Mpls./St. Paul as well as Lacrosse, WI. Winona has a city transit system and the Jefferson Line stops in Winona daily. Taxis are available as well as rental car option.

Best Time To Go:
Summer and fall.
|
We have the most visitors come during the summer which is our busiest time for events and activities. Our summers are very warm with July being our hottest month. Fall is another popular time of year because the bluffs turn golden colors. Fall temperatures are mild and pleasant.
