You will discover the Up North small town that's just down the road, the place where family, friends and recreation are at their best.

In this quaint haven, you can browse delightful shops, enjoy wonderful meals, fish for trout, perch, and walleye on Lake Huron, cast a fly in the AuSable, and camp in the woods or on the beach. The area is truly a four season vacation wonderland. You can sunbathe, swim, hike, golf, ski, run ATV's or snowmobiles on groomed trails, canoe, kayak, float, sail, or motor across the water on a craft of our choice. There are many festivals and events that happen all year long.

Recreation & Fitness













The water and beaches of Tawas Bay are perfect for all kinds of recreation. The bay is perfect for sailing, paddling, fishing, power boating, wave runners, fishing and is even recognized as a premier kiteboarding destination. A gradual drop from the beach to the bay makes it a fantastic family beach with lots of room for kids of all ages to play, picnic, and relax.

Choose from five different parks in the area along the shores of Lake Huron. Bicyclists and walkers appreciate the paved Tawas Bike Path, which provides a front row view of the area's loveliest landscape for 10 miles through town out to the historic lighthouse. There is a 44-mile groomed trail system to hike, run, walk, bird, snowshoe, and ski, depending on the season.

There are several events throughout the year, including Perchville USA, Fourth of July Parade and Fireworks, Uncork'd and Untap'd Wine and Food Festival, Blues by the Bay, and many fine arts, craft and antique shows throughout the summer. Neighboring communities in the region have many festivals that it seems there is something to do most weekends throughout the year. There are farm markets throughout the region.

Cultural Activities





There are art workshops and classes throughout the region, receptions at Art Studios, Galleries and Museums. There is a ballet studio in the region which hosts two performances a year. There are concerts on the streets of the communities, at parks and a local community band which performs throughout the year and through the summer.

There are two community theaters which host live performance series throughout the year. Within a two hour drive, there are also performances by professional artists in theater and concerts. Each community has a local library and a new library is being built in East Tawas. There are several artists shows throughout the year and one juried art exhibit in the summer. The local Iosco County Historical Museum is a local treasure, house near downtown East Tawas. Exhibits highlight the local and regional history of the area, including exhibits on lumbering, railroads, the fishing industry, Native Americans and local photo exhibits.

Transportation



Iosco Transit Corporation provides bus transportation throughout the County of Iosco five days a week and can be hired for events. There are two major airports within two hours drive from East Tawas. Rental cars are available from a dealership and there are two taxi companies in the area. Train transportation is available within two hours. VA Transportation is performed by volunteers in the County through Veterans Organizations. There is also a long distance bus service (Indian Trail) that also connects in the Tawas Area.

Best Time To Go:

Summer and fall.

Our Spring is from April through June and temperatures are from 40's to 60's most days throughout the season. Summer is June through September and we are known for always having a breeze and temperatures range from 60's through 80's most often. We have glorious summers with very little humidity. Our fall colors are spectacular and we have many viewing areas and temperatures range from 30's to 60's most fall days.

Winter can be very cold, ranging from 30's down into the negative temperature ranges. We have snow throughout the November through February months and an occasional later snow storm in March. March is windy and can be quite cold as well but spring is just around the corner. No matter what time of year you are in the Tawas Area, there is always something to do and enjoy.

We do have infrequent tornadoes that do minimum damage and a few wildfires but are not considered high risk.
