Just 45 minutes from Montgomery, Alabama, you'll find the largest historic district in Alabama - over 1,200 historic structures, landmark sites of the nation's Voting Rights Movement and Civil War, outdoor adventures, and even some haunted history sites - including Alabama's most famous ghost town. History lives on almost every corner and the city celebrates its rich heritage, architecture, arts, culture, and natural beauty. Outdoor enthusiasts can do it all in Selma/Dallas County. The Alabama River provides unlimited fishing, boating, and water sports form city of privately operated marinas. Bass, crappie, catfish, and bream are abundant not only in the Alabama River but including Paul M. Grist State Park and Dallas County Lake. Hunting is a passion for many of our residents and visitors. Our commercial lodges offer hunters the opportunity to harvest prime buck, quail, and other small game. Dallas County is known for having more whitetail deer per acre than any other state in the union. Enjoy other outdoor activities including, bird watching, hiking, golf, and organized sports leagues. In an effort to make our community healthier Vaughan Regional Medical Center delivers quality health care with a dedicated staff of physicians, employees, and volunteers. Among the services offered are 24 hours physician staffed emergency room services, fitness center, maternity unit/birthing, intensive care unit, health programs for senior adults and women. The education system of Selma and Dallas County consists of (2) public education systems, private schools, a community college and (2) universities. Bridge Crossing Jubilee held the first weekend in March to commemorate the March from Selma to Montgomery and the passing of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Historic Annual Selma Pilgrimage, guides dressed in period costumes lead tours through homes, museums, and more in state's largest historic district. Alabama River Chili Cook off - taste chili and celebrate with a community committed to helping local charities at the annual event held on historic Water Avenue. Battle of Selma re enactment a 4 day event with living history tours, battle re enactments along with a camp dance and Grand Military Ball with period dress. Central Alabama Fair, West Dallas Antique Tractor, Car, Gas Engine and Craft Show. Integrity World Wide 5k and Fun Run, Haunted History Tours, Rock N Ribs Benefit, Low Country Boil, Crawfish Festival, Selma and Dallas County Annual Golf Tournament., NFL Player Michael Johnson Youth Football and Cheer Camp, Dallas County Relay For Life, Morgan Academy Deer Hunt, Audio Tour of 75 Historic Sites, Historic District Driving Tour,St. Paul's Episcopal Church Lobsterfest, Alabama Wildlife Federation Cook off.

Selma Dallas County Public Library offers year round programs including Media Center, Children's Library and Research Center. Selma Walton Theater located in historic downtown Selma offers first run box office movies and Tuesday at the movies for Senior Citizens. Selma was declared Butterfly Capital in 1982. Attractions/Museums: Brown Chapel AME Church and King Monument, Headquarters for the 1965 Voting Rights marches, Historic Water Avenue, view Civil War and Civil Rights markers, antebellum structures, Riverfront Park, Edmund Pettus Bridge, Songs of Park, and Bridge Tender's House. Old Historic District, Performing Arts Center, Selma Interpretative Center, Welcome Center for the Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail operated by the National Park Service. Slavery and War Museum, sister museum to the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute. Sturdivant Hall Museum, one of the South's outstanding Greek Revival antebellum homes built in 1853. Vaughan Smitherman Building, the impressive 3 story structures was built in 1847 by Selma's Masonic Lodge #27 as a boys and girls school, was a confederate hospital, a military institute and became a hospital again in 1911. It exhibits a tangible piece of Selma's past and is also used for weddings, receptions, meetings and other social functions.

Mild- Annual temperature January 47 degrees- Flooding rarely occurs and effects those areas located along the Alabama River. We rarely get any weather from Hurricanes that hit our coastal lines. Alabama residents actually stay in our area hotels when evacuation occurs.
