Potomac Eagle Excursion Train traveling through the Trough with a guide describing the historic buildings along the rail; South Potomac River, Capon River, Cacapon River are great places to go kayaking, fishing, tubing, & wading. The Confederate Memorial Celebration and re-enactors camp providing a glimpse into the Civil War era; South Branch Bluegrass Festival & Fireworks providing some of the finest Bluegrass Bands. WV Peach Festival with the WV State Commissioner crowning the WV Peach King & Queen, Peach Blossom & Peach Fuzz,& displays by local artisans and local foods available. A Unique Festival is the 'Squirrel Fest' held in November featuring foods made with squirrel. The Hampshire Highlands Studio Tour is a tour of Cottage Industry in Hampshire County. Also, local artist have displays of their artwork in public buildings & banks. Then come to get the Fresh produce from Hampshire County at the Farmer Markets, orchards and farm stands.

The wonderful places to see a large variety of wildlife in Hampshire County are the Wildlife Management Areas, State and National Parks. Take the Potomac Eagle Excursion Train and see Bald Eagles nests and in spring maybe a glimpse of a baby eagle(?). Check out the Taggart Hall Civil War Museum in Romney, WV the Oldest Town in WV. While in Romney, WV stop by the Hampshire County Visitor Center and pick up a 'Walking Tour of Historic Romney, WV'. Another museum to visit is the Capon Bridge Museum locate in Capon Bridge, WV next to the Public Library.
Stop by 'Flying Squirrel Ranch & Farm Rada Distillery' located in Purgitsville, WV. More Distilleries are coming soon to Hampshire County, WV.

Best Time To Go:

Summer and fall.

Summer is the best time to swim, kayak and go floating down the rivers. Fishing is a relaxing activity. A relaxing hike can be taken at the Ice Mountain Conservancy to visit the 'vents' of cooool air. If Fall is your favorite come see the beautiful fall colors and ride the Potomac Eagle Excursion Train.

Accommodations

Hampshire County boast of a large variety of accommodations - a cabin in the woods, campgrounds to park your vehicle, Bed and Breakfast in historic homes, or more modern sites of hotel or motel accommodation. The resorts offer accommodations for larger groups.
