Things to Do
Recently designated a Cultural District by the Texas Commission on the Arts, Downtown Plano Arts District is a vibrant community of urban living, performing arts, galleries, event venues, alongside boutique shops and unique restaurants. Downtown Plano has free outdoor concerts and movies, festivals for every season, easy access via DART light rail station, all set against a backdrop of historic buildings.
Visitors won’t want to miss Legacy West. Opened in June 2017, this “city within a city” is the largest mixed use destination in North Texas and the perfect place to play, shop, dine and stay. The 255-acre development boasts 415,000 dynamic square feet of open-air retail and restaurant space. Here, diners can satisfy every craving, whether for steak or a good old-fashioned milk shake, French bistro fare, a perfect plate of pasta, or a red velvet cupcake. For those who can’t decide, Legacy Hall has it all. In this one-of-a-kind artisanal food hall, visitors can wander from stall to stall to meet local purveyors and sample everything from lobster rolls to Philly cheesesteaks to house made ginger beer floats. There’s also an on-site brewery and live music stage in the Box Garden. Legacy West’s shopping offerings run the gamut from fashion to furnishings to cosmetics and even cars. (Think Tesla!) After a day of retail therapy, shoppers won’t have to go very far to set down their spoils, since this urban village is anchored by the new Renaissance Dallas at Plano Legacy West Hotel.
The city has 3,600 acres of public parks offering more than 40 miles of recreation trails. Worth a visit is the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, a 200-acre park featuring vast areas of natural beauty for walking, jogging, orienteering and other outdoor activities. Amenities include a playground, restrooms, approximately 2.3 miles of paved recreational trails, approximately two miles designed as an off-road cycling trail, an observation tower and three pavilions.
Relive some memorable moments from the television series “Dallas” at Southfork Ranch in nearby Parker. The “Dallas Legends: Fact To Fantasy” exhibit features such memorabilia as the gun that shot J.R., Lucy’s wedding dress and video clips from the popular series.

It's no surprise visitors feel an instant connection with Plano. Serious shoppers love the selection--antiques, boutiques, and some pretty major indoor malls, too. We have lots of parks for picnics, swimming, and tennis laced with miles of hiking and biking trails. Those who love sports in a major way appreciate the fact there's always a pro team playing nearby. Foodies are delighted to discover close to 1,000 restaurants on Plano's menu, while free spirits revel in the knowledge that Plano has plenty of nightspots for nightcaps and dancing.
Make plans to catch the free Live-and-Local concerts at McCall Plaza in the Downtown Plano Arts District. Or sip and shop downtown at the monthly Art and Wine Walk events. Enjoy free movie nights in Haggard Park and at Oak Point Park Amphitheater during the summer months. Bring a picnic basket to the FREE summer concert series presented by Plano Community Band, or take some free dance lessons once a month at McCall Plaza. Catch regional and national artists at the monthly concerts in the Courtyard Texas Music Series.

A microcosm of North Texas railroad history, the Interurban Railway Museum sits in Haggard Park, a green space right in the Downtown Plano Arts District. Once a vital part of the Texas Electric Railway that stretched from Denison to Waco, the Interurban was one of the original electric cars that ran on the tracks through Plano. Also on site is car 360, which carried mail as well as passengers.

Heritage Farmstead Museum: Set on four acres, this living history museum lets visitors step back into the late 1800s and early 1900s. The property’s beautiful Victorian home and 12 outbuildings were once part of a 360-acre farm operated by colorful local resident Ammie Wilson.
Crayola Experience: With 60,000 square feet of attractions, Crayola Expense is Texas’ most colorful family destination for interactive, creative play. Kids of all ages can embark on a wonderful, whimsical adventure with such unique experiences as starring in their very own coloring pages, naming and wrapping their very own Crayola crayon, learning how crayons are made in a live manufacturing show and so much more.
Pinstack: Pinstack is North Texas’ first state-of-the-art bowling and active entertainment destination. This 50,000 square foot fun zone features a 28-lane bowling alley, a ropes course suspended 20 feet above the gaming center, two-story laser tag, bumper cars, six lanes of LED-lit rock climbing walls, and hundreds of interactive games. The facility also has a specialty restaurant featuring a chef-driven menu and craft cocktails, an outside bar area, covered patio with fire pits, gelato bar, big screen TVs and ample seating.
Go Ape: Glide over the forest canopy at Plano’s new Go Ape! Zip lines, Tarzan swings and suspended obstacles bring out your inner monkey and provide a fun challenge amid 800 acres of natural beauty at Texas’ only Go Ape location. Riders must be 10 years or older, at least 4-feet-7inches tall and weigh no more than 285 pounds.
Shops at Legacy: Legacy Town Center is a mélange of homes, businesses, shops, hotels, restaurants and open spaces all in an urban village-style setting. The Shops at Legacy feature an upscale retail mix of men’s and women’s clothing, home furnishings and more. The development is also home to the Angelika Film Center & Café, a stylish five-screen boutique cinema devoted to independent specialty film, as well as some of the area’s best restaurants, including Bob’s Steak & Chop House, Fleming’s and Mexican Sugar. The Marriott Dallas/Plano at Legacy Town Center is the center’s premier hotel property. Baccus Plaza boasts the Trails in Legacy Sculptures, which were created by Texas native Robert Summers and depict a cattle drive along the Shawnee Trail, a principal route on which Texas longhorn cattle were driven before and just after the Civil War.
Boardwalk at Granite Park: Across from the Hilton Granite Park sits a new 30,000 square foot restaurant park where visitors enjoy eateries featuring cuisine like southern—inspired gulf seafood to gourmet biscuits and even a new local brewery and restaurant. Each restaurant has a patio and there are Adirondack chairs along the Boardwalk to enjoy the view of the water feature.
Plano has over 3,700 acres of public green space including 40-miles of hike and bike trails.
You can visit Plano's historic downtown area. Wall the brick-paved streets of downtown to shop antique boutiques and then sit back and relax in one of many fine eateries.
