Area Overview

An old mining town surrounded by ranching communities tucked up in the mountains of southwest Montana. Lots of history packed into the local ghost towns and museum about the beginnings of the area. The area is also known for sapphire mining both the novice and the rock hound. All kinds of opportunities abound for outdoorsmen and adventure seekers.

Things to Do

Recreation & Fitness

Philipsburg offers sapphire mining, hiking, snow skiing, water skiing, fishing, ghost towns, museums, shopping, dining, a brewery, snow shoeing, and the World's Greatest Candy Store, the Sweet Palace.

Cultural Activities

We have two museums in our community, one giving a great representation of our history in the valley, and the other is the Montana Law Enforcement Museum. There are several concerts throughout the year, along with community events that we encourage anyone passing through to take part in and join.

The attractions are many. We have something for everyone, whether you want to ski, sample the local brew, watch candy being made, mine for sapphires, have your old time picture taken, stroll through our museums, or play in the mountains.

We are located an hour from any major transportation, airports included.

Best Time To Go:

Summer and winter.

Summer is filled with warm days and cold nights, to be followed by beautiful Indian Summer like Fall weather, which escorts the deep snows and cold days for winter sport, only to be finished with the beginnings of spring which has sunny cool days filled with periods of rain and snow.
