Enjoy the outdoors by hiking at Wildcat Den State Park, or boating in Deep Lakes Park. Take some time to learn about the Midwestern environment at the Environmental Learning Center in Discovery Park and take a walk along the walking path there later. Walk along the river's edge on our Running River Trail System, which will also take you to historic Weed Park where you can revel in our gorgeous Rose Garden and take selfies with the animal sculptures in the Zoo Garden right across from it. While you're there, be sure to take a moment to appreciate yet another view of the Mississippi from a well-placed lookout. During the summer, enjoy a soak at the Muscatine Aquatic Center, also in Weed Park, and don't forget to take a moment to feel the peace of the Weed Park Lagoon. If you're a sports fan, take the time to check out our golf courses, disc golf course, our world class soccer complex and the ball fields of our Kent Stein Park.
But Muscatine doesn’t just have natural beauty to offer you, it has a diverse history that you can walk right into at the Pearl Button Museum in the History and Industry Center and at the Pine Creek Grist Mill.
Further, West Liberty and Wilton, another beautiful small Midwestern town in Muscatine County, as well as the city of Muscatine, are all rich in shopping opportunities in their unique and historic downtowns. And don't forget to grab a bite to eat! The county is full of diverse local restaurants with five star cuisine. You can eat here like you can't eat anywhere else.

Cultural Activities

This pearl on the Mississippi also provides rich cultural experiences: Get face-to-face with a Picasso or a Van Gogh at the Muscatine Art Center and embrace all the opportunities to experience live music with the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra, the Jackson and Second Sunday Concert Series, and the famous ragtime musicians who play during our annual Eagles and Ivories event. There are also a number of talented theatre groups giving multiple performances each year, as well as an internationally known puppet troupe housed in Muscatine County's West Liberty.
The city of Muscatine also has ties to China, dating back to 1985 when now President of China Xi Jinping visited the city and fell in love with it and its people. The home where President Xi stayed in 1985 has been declared the Sino-U.S. Friendship House and is open for tours. The relationship between Muscatine and China has also resulted in opportunities such as having the world-renowned China Broadcasting Chinese Orchestra perform here. Soon, Muscatine's downtown will boast a Chinese cultural center next door to the History and Industry Center.

Beckey Bridge (which stretches from Muscatine to Illinois over the Mississippi River and is lighted at night), the Pearl Button Paddlewheel (the only authentic sidewheeler currently in operation in the entire United States), Ardon Creek Winery, the Muscatine Art Center, the History and Industry Center (home of the Pearl Button Museum), the Muscatine Aquatic Center, the Butterfly Garden, Cedar Bluffs, Saulsbury Bridge Recreation Area and much more.

Muscatine County summers are warm and perfect for enjoying our abundance of outdoor activities. Springs are lush and beautiful, as the natural beauty of our area wakes up after winter. Winters are ideal for eagle watching as the gorgeous birds feast on the fish in the Mississippi. Falls are incredibly vibrant and colorful.

Muscatine County boasts a variety of accommodations from quaint beds and breakfasts to a number of hotels with trusted brand affiliations. The city of Muscatine will also soon be home to a four-star hotel downtown, right across from the Mississippi River. That hotel, the Merrill Hotel and Conference Center, will also have a ballroom with a balcony overlooking the river as well as conference space.
