Area Overview

What began as a quaint fishing village, Little River has grown into a quiet, yet fun-filled community that enjoys local seafood delicacies and entertainment in addition to the convenience of being within travel distance to the best of the Grand Strand. Little River is located in the northeast corner of Horry County in South Carolina, just beside the North Carolina border. With numerous fishing charters, marinas, waterfront restaurants and other water activities in Little River, locals and visitors alike are sure to find plenty to do. Some also enjoy our proximity to beaches without the bustle, as we are 15 minutes from North Myrtle Beach, SC and 20 minutes to Sunset Beach, NC. Little River, like the Grand Strand, has a mild year-round climate – perfect for golfing and outdoor activities. We also encourage you to enjoy one of the many restaurants in Little River. From seafood to steak, casual or fine dining, one of our local eateries is sure to satisfy your craving. Many of our businesses are located on or just off of Highway 17 North, so stop by – just don’t drive by and miss our wonderful local businesses!

Recreation
Little River is a treasure trove of environmental beauty and proudly sports numerous outdoor activities, including walking trails, golfing, fishing, boat and jet ski rentals, and more. The C. B. Berry Historical & Community Center hosts a number of classes and events and also give outs trail maps for Vereen Memorial Gardens as well as a handy Bird Watching Guide for kids. Take a picnic or your furry friend and enjoy scenic views of the woods, marsh, and Intracoastal Waterway. The North Strand Recreation Park hosts similar classes and events, with more athletic opportunities and also provides a playground. Boating/Marina
Little River, SC is conveniently located right along the Intracoastal Waterway (“ICW”), allowing boaters and fishermen direct access to the Atlantic Ocean. Little River offers a variety of scenic and water recreation interests, with local businesses providing opportunities for dolphin sightings, rentals and tours on jet-skis via Myrtle Beach Water Sports, as well as a variety of fishing charters. Transient boaters are welcome at one of our many marinas in the area, who offer a full range of services, including repairs. Fishing
Whether you want to spend the whole day on the water or just take the kids out for a few hours, there are several fishing charters in the area that can meet your needs. Private charters, party boats, specialty fishing trips, deep sea fishing, and more are all available – just don’t forget your camera!

Golfing
The Myrtle Beach area hosts over a hundred golf courses, 8 of which are beautifully seated in our humble area. Our lush greens are sure to tempt locals and visitors alike to work on their game. Whether you're looking for a driving range, putting green, or country club, or mini golf with the family you're sure to find it here.

Annual Events
• Horry County Gullah Geechee Festival: Annually held two weeks before school starts, this educational event fills three days with culture and heritage related festivities. The traditions and customs forged by enslaved people have been passed down through generations of Gullah Geechee people, whose values rest on family, faith, and education. • Little River ShrimpFest: Previously the Shrimp & Jazz Festival, this Grand Strand showcases a variety of music, including jazz. Take pleasure in the fines shrimp and seafood specialties available from the local waterfront restaurants, shop with a variety of vendors, and don’t forget to take a stroll with your loved ones down the waterfront. • Movie in Your Park: Horry County Parks & Recreation hosts one free movie a month during summer at the C. B. Berry Historical & Community Center (beside Vereen Memorial Gardens). Enjoy a free movie showing underneath the stars; just bring your chair or blanket, bug spray, and your family or friends. Call 843-249-4157 for details.
• World Famous Blue Crab Festival: For 35+ years, this festival has attracted locals and visitors alike. Always the week-end after Mother’s Day, this annual street festival offers live entertainment, festival food, fresh local seafood from the waterfront restaurants, crafters, and all types of vendors. Fun for the whole family. Bikers welcome.

Dining
Put simply, Little River is to dine for. You can choose the right ambiance for every occasion right here in Little River, from elegant establishments to international delights to casual, Southern, home-style meals. If you enjoy seafood, you should ride down to the Historic Little River Waterfront on Mineola Avenue and tuck into one of our waterfront restaurants.

Shopping
Without the overwhelming crowds and high prices found in busier destinations, you can find everything from a one-of-a-kind piece by a local artist to new designs to furnish your new home. Check out one of our consignment stores, gift shops, or boutique for a unique present or souvenir. If you prefer larger shopping experiences, then you might wish to take advantage of our proximity to North Myrtle Beach, which houses both Colonial Grand Mall and Barefoot Landing. Little River is also adjacent to Calabash, just across the NC border, which hosts numerous gift stores, souvenir shops, and more.

Cultural Activities





Bring your friends and family to enjoy a movie outside under the stars in Little River, SC. Seasonally, Horry County Parks & Recreation provides a free monthly movie screening for local and visiting families to enjoy. Concessions available for purchase. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on.

Attractions






Beautiful Little River, SC has a variety of attractions and recreational activities. The scenic and pet-friendly Vereen Memorial Historical Gardens is open to the public during the day and features numerous hiking and walking trails, wooden boardwalks that extend across several beautiful salt marshes and small islands, with a nice gazebo that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. Little River is also home to SC's only casino boats via The Big "M" Casino. Step aboard to test a variety of games, enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet, and of course the ocean-front view! If you prefer wine to waterway, then wine down at La Belle Amie Vineyards, a locally owned and operated vineyard featuring local wines, gift shop, tasting room, festivals, and tours.

Transportation



Myrtle Beach International Airport is the closest airport - about 30 minutes away. Pre-planning for rental cars or taxis is encouraged. Many beach goers opt to rent scooters or golf carts and blend right in with our casual atmosphere.

With warm weather at an average of about 74?F, you might consider visiting Cherry Grove of North Myrtle Beach, SC or Sunset Beach, NC - both less than 20 minutes away.

Though Little River is small there are still plenty of places to stay! Most of our accommodations are located right off of Highway 17, or you may choose to look into vacation rentals in North Myrtle Beach, only 15 minutes away.
