Area Overview
Harrison is a rural community located on US-127 in Michigan. Traditionally a tourist town and retirement area, Harrison is a great location for anyone wishing to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a more quiet, meaningful way of life.
There are many restaurants featuring Italian, Chinese, and American food, plus lots of Mom and Pop stores to browse, or for a quick stop in to get your daily essentials. There are several historic buildings in the city of Harrison. The Surrey House is a relic of the lumber town days. The Clare County Newspaper building, located downtown, is the oldest building in Harrison, dating back to 1898. In the heart of downtown is a new Veteran's Memorial Park, which features a building dedicated to the history of Clare County's veterans. And, a few miles out of town, is the Clare County Historical Museum, which features the old school house, museum and more. Finally, Harrison was once the home of John "Spikehorn" Myer's famous "Bear Den", which was open in the 50's and 60's and drew many people from all over. The "Bear Den" property is still located on the corner of Old 27 and M-61.
