Many people live and work in the City of Wilmington and their has been an enormous amount of residential development in Wilmington's Riverfront and along Market Street in Downtown Wilmington. Suburban towns surround the city so there are many choices. There's lots to see and do in Wilmington, the gateway to the Brandywine Valley: tour the du Pont mansions which include Hagley, Winterthur and Nemours, explore incredible gardens like Longwood and Mt. Cuba, tour museums like the Delaware Art Museum, Brandywine River Museum of Art and The Delaware Contemporary, discover historic towns, enjoy our park system and find out why Delaware is the nation's third bike friendly state. Shopping is always a great option because there is no sales tax in Delaware.

Delaware is the country's third friendliest states for biking. Route 100 and Route 52 are part of the National Scenic Byways, so beauty abounds. The Greater Wilmington Area has wonderful state parks as well as many pocket parks. There are private golf clubs and many excellent public golf facilities and tennis courts. Outdoor concerts, including the Annual DuPont Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in Downtown Wilmington in June, are popular throughout the season and there are more than 100 festivals scheduled every year. The Blue Rocks Baseball Team plays at Frawley Stadium and they are a franchise for the World Champion Kansas City Royals. The 87er's are a farm team for the Philadelphia 76er's; the 87er's play at the U of D Stadium in Newark, DE. Wilmington just opened an 18-hole Mini Golf Course in the Riverfront and Ice Skating is offered on a portable rink from the end of November through February. The list goes on and on!

Wilmington is a relatively small city with a population under 75,000 but it has big city amenities with resident opera, ballet and symphony and a choice of theatres and live performance venues. The University of Delaware is located in nearby Newark, DE and the Osher Center for Life Long Learning--run by the University of Delaware,is located in Wilmington. The area is steeped in museums, mansions and gardens. Everything if readily accessible and affordable--and there is no sales tax in Delaware.

The climate in Greater Wilmington is generally mild, but the area does enjoy changing seasons. Snowfall is most likely to occur from January to March. Spring is beautiful when all the trees, shrubs and flowers awaken and this natural beauty continues through the summer. Fall is spectacular with the changing colors of the leaves and the clear, high blue skies.
