Greater Waco is centrally located along the I-35 corridor, and is 90 miles from the Dallas-Fort. Worth metroplex and Austin areas. Greater Waco also enjoys a low-cost of living compared with the state of Texas and nation-wide. Greater Waco is home to Baylor University, McLennan Community College and Texas State Technical College, and is near Ft. Hood. Greater Waco is home to the Brazos River (which goes through downtown Waco), the Bosque River and Lake Waco. Cameron Park, one of the state's largest municipal parks, encompasses a range of landscapes from wonderful tree-lined roads, limestone cliffs to the smooth Brazos River. One can enjoy the wildflowers, mountain bike the rugged trails, ride a horse around the bridle path or play a round of disc golf. In addition to the Lake Waco Wetlands, residents and visitors alike enjoy the popular downtown Farmer's Market (on the Brazos River), plenty of golf courses, and visiting the award-winning natural-habitat found in the Cameron Park Zoo. The Waco Mammoth National Monument is the nation's first and only recorded discovery of a nursery herd of Pleistocene mammoths, which is also open to the public. Several art centers, the Mayborn Museum, Texas Rangers Museum & Hall of Fame, Dr Pepper Museum and Texas Sports Museum are also local favorites. In the summer, locals enjoy the Brazos Nights Concert Series - free outdoor concerts along the river. Foodies will also enjoy the growing food truck scene, wide variety of dining options around Greater Waco and plenty of shopping options with the Richland Mall, boutiques and shopping centers all around town.

Throughout the year, residents enjoy a variety of cultural events and festivals - such as the Waco Cultural Arts Fest, Heart o' Texas Fair & Rodeo and Art on Elm Street. The Waco Civic Theatre produces shows year-round from Shakespeare to contemporary musicals, and the Creative Art Studio and Theater group is just one example of local artists, painters, authors, musicians, sculptors, dancers and more coming together. They also host the Brazos Theatre Group for comedic improve nights and dinner theater productions. Baylor University, next to downtown Waco, also hosts a variety of lectures year-round. Additionally Waco is home to the state's only Texas Ranger Museum & Hall of Fame, as well as the popular Mayborn Museum Complex, Dr Pepper Museum, Lee Lockwood Library & Museum, Martin Museum of Art, Red Men Museum, Texas Sports Hall of Fame and many more. The Waco Symphony Orchestra also offers quality orchestral music for all of Central Texas.

In addition to having the Waco Transit System providing bus service, Greater Waco is home to the Waco Regional Airport, with connecting flights to the Dallas-Ft. Worth airport. While downtown, grab a DASH bus to get you around or rent your own car.
