Area Overview
Nestled near 11,000-foot Grand Mesa and the 7,500-foot Book Cliffs, Grand Junction is the largest city in western Colorado. At an altitude of 4,586 feet, warm summers and moderate spring, fall and winter seasons allow for year-round golf, hiking and biking. Boasting more than 275 days of sunshine annually, Grand Junction recently was named one of the eight sunniest cities in the United States by TourismReview.com. Among Grand Junction's spectacular red cliffs and winding canyons are the Grand Mesa, the world's largest flat-topped mountain, the Colorado National Monument, Bookcliff Wild Horse Area, two national scenic byways and five golf courses. Grand Junction lies in the heart of the Colorado-Utah Dinosaur Diamond. The area also is home to Colorado's wine country, with nearly 30 vineyards and wineries, 22 of which have tasting rooms open year-round.

In Downtown Grand Junction visitors will find plenty of opportunities to soak up culture at attractions such as the Avalon Theatre, the Museum of the West and others. Plenty of opportunities exist for live music, dance, theater and more. Downtown Grand Junction also features Art on the Corner, an unique outdoor sculpture exhibit of more than 100 pieces, some of which are permanent sculpture, while others are changed annually.

With an abundance of lush vineyards and more than 22 wineries situated in the heart of the valley, Grand Junction is known as “Colorado’s Wine Country”. Just to the west of Grand Junction, 23,000 acres of towering reddish sandstone cliffs and unusual rock formations comprise the breathtaking Colorado National Monument, which is part of the National Parks System. Positioned just east of Grand Junction is the colossal Grand Mesa, the largest flattop mountain in the world. At an elevation over 10,000 feet high, Grand Mesa stretches over 40 miles in length, encompassing a total area of approximately 500 square miles. Downtown Grand Junction is another popular destination for visitors and locals alike, featuring an array of quaint shops, restaurants, boutiques, and galleries.

Major airlines service the Grand Junction Regional Airport, with direct flights from Denver, Salt Lake City, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Phoenix, and other major cities. Also, Amtrak’s popular California Zephyr route though the Rockies stops in Grand Junction. Multiple rental car companies are located in Grand Junction, including Action, Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, and National. In addition, the are has several taxi companies, limousine and shuttle services, and a public bus transportation system (Grand Valley Transit).
