Area Overview

Greater Binghamton is like a playground for adults – and yet still fun for children – it’s the best of both worlds!

You can hit the greens with your buddies, trek along a trail in the great outdoors with your fishing pole in hand, shop Antique Row for that impossible-to-find replica you’ve been dying for, or capture your kids’ attention for hours at the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier. Tour a cool museum with the whole family, then the countryside on a scenic walking or bike trail. When the stars appear, and so does your urge paint the town red, venture downtown for great restaurants, dance clubs, brew pubs, sports bars and coffee houses.

Get out there and play the day away in Greater Binghamton!

Things to Do

Recreation & Fitness

At the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers lies Greater Binghamton, a region rich in scenic beauty, enchanting villages, and lively cities. Nestled in the heartland of New York State, Binghamton is at the center of it all and so easy to get to for a day, a weekend or more! You’ll feel the pulse of big city life, but with a definite upstate appeal. Attend a festival, the performing arts, sporting event or hit the links for a great round of golf.

For a great destination this summer ~ come to Greater Binghamton! We have a season filled with events family fun events. The PGA Champion’s Tour Dick’s Sporting Goods Open is held at En-Joie Golf Club (July 4-10). Some of the best players on the tour will be in Endicott and after play on Friday, Florida Georgia Line takes the stage. The Annual Spiedie Fest & Balloon Rally features five Hot Air Balloon launches (weather permitting), national touring bands, arts & crafts, antique cars and spiedies ~ a grilled meat we’re famous for (August 5-7). Cyclists and runners from across the country converge on Binghamton every year for the Annual Chris Thater Memorial Races (August 27-28). Other opportunities to watch professional athletes can be found at the Levene Gouldin & Thompson Tennis Challenger (July 16-24) or by watching our AA Binghamton Mets. We also have fabulous attractions like Animal Adventure Park, the Discovery Center or Roberson Museum and Science Center to name a few. Nothing tastes better than farm-fresh so visit our numerous “visitor friendly” agri-tourism businesses.

From Memorial Day through Labor Day you can take a spin on one of our 5 antique carousels (1 of our 6 carousel will be closed for the 2016 season) – the largest collection in the world! Every “first” Friday of the month you can partake in the “First Friday Art Walk” ~ an event highlighting the numerous art galleries and studios that thrive in Downtown Binghamton.

Cultural Activities

Greater Binghamton is the stage for performing arts that would excite any artistic soul. From the concerted efforts of worldclass orchestras, to soloist divas reaching octaves that could move mountains. Get knocked out by a well delivered joke, catch a play or musical, or peer through
covered eyes at circus acts that would give Isaac Newton vertigo. Time to answer the curtain call and ready your encores, the theatre awaits.

Our city has inspiration in surplus: a lively art scene, both which preserves tradition and historical style, and encourages the fresh, electric voices of new artists. This is a city which celebrates its art and the individuals who create it. Join in on the celebration downtown during our monthly First Friday “art walk,” or visit a gallery and spend the day musing about a masterpiece.
