Best Time To Go:
Summer and fall.
|
The Flaming Gorge Reservoir has a surface elevation of 6,040 feet above sea level when completely full and the mountains tower above the surface level. King's Peak is Utah's highest peak at 13,528' and is west of the Flaming Gorge area, but still in the Ashley National Forest. The Flaming Gorge area enjoys its share of sunshine, but also can have snowy and cold winters. Temperatures tend to be cooler than most other places in Utah. The cooler Water temps can be a bit cool in the early summer season, but are usually quite nice by late summer. Fall is beautiful time to visit the area and see the bright yellows of the aspen trees contrasting the dark greens of the conifers. The Kokanee Salmon turn bright red and can be seen swimming up Sheep Creek near Manila, Utah.
