Cultural Activities





The First Friday Arts gallery stroll features new exhibitions, meet and greets with the artist and neighboring businesses open late for the occasion. The Mississippi River Tales Mural is the largest and most dramatic of Cape Girardeau's murals and is located on a portion of the downtown floodwall. Covering nearly 18,000 square feet, this 1,100-foot-long mural features 24 historically-themed panels that vividly portray Cape Girardeau's rich history and heritage; descriptive markers provide an explanation of each panel. The Cape Girardeau Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition rotates out sculptures every year along the Broadway corridor. The River Campus, Southeast Missouri State University's performing arts campus, features a dynamic array of touring productions as well as student and faculty productions spanning dance, symphony, chamber music, musicals and much more.

Attractions






Trail of Tears State Park with 3,415 acres of pristine scenery, offers some of Missouri’s most breathtaking scenery. The park is a certified site on the Trail of Tears National Historic Trail, commemorating the forced relocation of the Cherokee to Oklahoma. The interpretive center has exhibits that detail this American tragedy as well as the park’s many natural features. With hands-on exhibits for all ages, a scientific research laboratory, freshwater aquariums, an indoor wildlife viewing area and an indoor beehive, the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center does an exceptional job of showcasing the diverse natural resource of Southeast Missouri. 3.5 acres of water park fun can be found at Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center! The park includes a mat racer with a 265 foot free fall slide and a 259 foot long triple drop slide, a 700 foot lazy river, a 177 foot open flume from a 25 foot tower slide, a 140 foot enclosed flume slide, 64 and 78 foot flume slides from an 11 foot tower slide, a vortex swirl pool, a leisure pool with zero depth entry, a spray pad with zero depth entry, 23 Funbrellas that provide a spot to escape from the sun, a concession and bathhouse building, a family changing room, and pay-as-you-go lockers. All ages can enjoy a day at the water park at Cape Splash Family Aquatic Center! Numerous trail systems in and around Cape Girardeau provide a wide variety of hiking and biking options. Cape Girardeau's historic downtown is located on the banks of the Mighty Mississippi River, which you can enjoy on a leisurely stroll along our riverfront trail.
