Augusta has an active arts scene with a variety of art shops along Artists Row offering you the opportunity to make hand-made pottery or enjoy a three day festival with more than 120 artisans, food vendors offering global cuisine, and five stages of non-stop performances. Augustans cannot get enough of the outdoor recreational opportunities: enjoy a leisurely paddle down the Augusta Canal and see nature in it's natural habitat in one of only two of Georgia's National Heritage Areas. Or how about a bike ride along the new 1.3 mile River Levee Trail? Peddle along two suspension bridges while the beautiful Savannah River is your backdrop. Augusta is the second oldest city in the state of Georgia, so there is a lot of history. The Boyhood Home of President Woodrow Wilson tells the story of how a young boy being raised in Augusta during the Civil War helped to shape a man and a president. Or if you wish to know more about Augusta's history visit the Augusta Museum of History, which also features a James Brown Exhibit. Augusta also offers a very eclectic and diverse culinary scene, that is sure to be anything except for boring, and will keep you hungry. Augusta is also home to other great annual events such as the Sacred Heart Garden Festival or the largest half Ironman event - The Augusta Half Ironman.
