Texans take football seriously and the best playing field is in Arlington. The 3-million-square-foot, $1.2 billion AT&T Stadium features progressive architecture and state-of-the-art technology, including an HDTV screen that stretches from 20-yard line to 20-yard line (it’s the largest in the world). Catch a game, enjoy a concert,or take a tour of the impressive facility, which even houses an art gallery.
Within the same 3-mile radius, there are baseball lovers who adore Globe Life Park in Arlington. The 49,170-seat open-air ballpark houses the legendary Texas Rangers Hall of Fame, which is filled with Rangers memorabilia. Take a tour, or even better, watch a ballgame – there are fireworks following Friday games!
Top O’Hill Terrace, home to the present day Arlington Baptist College, was a gambling hall in the 1930s. Before Las Vegas became the casino mecca it is, this Arlington place, full of trap doors and hidden tunnels, was the gambling destination of the Unites States! Tour the site and hear the tales of Top O’Hill Terrace visitors Bonnie and Clyde, Howard Hughes, Clark Gable and Mae West.
Another fun spot is the International Bowling Hall of Fame. This interactive museum takes visitors back 5,000 years to the beginning of one of the most popular sports in the world.
Six Flags Over Texas, a 212-acre park, lures thrill seekers with more than 50 rides, including 15 roller coasters. The newly remodeled wood-steel hybrid Texas Giant, which plunges down a 79-degree drop, is always a favorite! For the less adventuresome, there are shows, concerts, and cartoon character appearances, not to mention fried food to fulfill your junk food cravings.
As a bonus, right across the street sits Six Flags Hurricane Harbor, a mega water park with slides, a wading pool, a huge water funnel, rides and a lazy river. From low-key kiddie areas to extreme water rides, this place has something for everyone.
In the middle of Arlington sits secret outdoor hideaways. River Legacy Parks, a 1,300-acre oasis on the Trinity River, offers more than 8 miles of paved trails winding through thick forest and expansive greenbelts. From picnic areas and a meditation area to a playground and a canoe launch, it’s perfect for outdoor enthusiasts!
Tierra Verde attracts golfers with its 18-hole course and 7,000 yards of golfing terrain. Through its commitment to environmental preservation, the golf club has achieved Audubon Signature status.
