Area Overview

Anamosa is a small city located on the edge of the Wapsipinicon River nestled in the hills of the area Grant Wood painted in many of his works . Antique Shops, art galleries, Starlighter's Theater and multiple dining establishments line Main Street. Tyler and Downing's Eatery and Daly Creek winery and Bistro ofer fine dining right downtown. A state park as well as city parks and an arborteum offer a host of oppotunities for nature lovers. 2 golf courses, tennis courts, hiking, bking, canoing, boating and fishing as well as hunting and the great facility at our rec center are available to keep the sports enthusiast busy.

Recreation & Fitness

We are the birthplace and home town of Grant Wood and Marshal Yanda. We are also home to the National Motorcycle Mueum! The first Saturday in October we are host of the Ryan Norlin Giant Pumpkin Weigh off and the Pumpkinfest. Pumpkins weighing over 1,000 pounds compete for prize money while downtown there are vendors fun and a parade to celebrate.
The National Motorcycle museum features bikes, toys and most of all motorcycles from over 100 years and is a must see for everyone!
The Friday evening after Thanksgiving finds downtown lit up and a parade welcoming Santa to town. The second weekend in December you will find a Christmas wonderland of trees in the Community Center with vindors and music throughout the weekend at the Lawrence Community Cente-r. Tours of Stone City -which was the home of Grant Wood's art Colong may be arranged by calling 319 462 4101 (Jones County Tourism).
Wednesday nights, weather permitting, you will find free music in the park during June, July and August.

Cultural Activities

We are blessed with a number of artists and musicians in the area and are proud to be home to the Starlighters II Theater where drama, music and comedy are shared by local residents.

Attractions

Explore our state park, the history of the state prison, the wonderful world of Grant Wood and the magic of motorcycles while you are visiting. Walk down the Main Street and experience a bit of Americana while you shop the antique stores and then have a unique dining experience. Wonders await you in Anamosa!

Anamosa is a city of all seasons! Winter brings snow, cold and skating and sledding to go along with it. Fall brings a vast array fo color in the many leaves along the river and the road ways. Spring is full of buds, blooms and babies and summer brings lazy hazy warm days to enjoy the river and parks.
