Plymouth Tourism & Sightseeing
|
|
Plymouth County is located between Boston and Cape Cod with 27 communities, the most visited being Plymouth, Massachusetts due to its historic notoriety as the place of the Pilgrims arrival on the Mayflower in 1620, their story of survival with the help of the Native Wampanoag Peoples and the birth of the most American of Holidays, Thanksgiving.

Top Plymouth Attractions Perhaps the most visually stimulating effect Plymouth County offers is its miles and miles of Atlantic coastline. Dotted with lighthouses and coastal villages it presents the images that make for beautiful photos and lasting memories. Although closely associated with its neighbors; Boston & Cape Cod, it is a destination in and of itself and its humble beginnings and middle-class heritage often make it a more affordable “home away from home” when touring south eastern New England.

Best Time to Visit Plymouth Plymouth County wakes from its sleepy winters to warm spring days and attractions opening their doors to the new year’s visitors. Summer temperatures are mild with averages in the low 70s to high 80s with off shore breezes to cool the occasional heat waves that dot the summer months. Nights are cool with lows in the 60s. Fall temperatures are cold with averages in the 40s & 50s but expect Indian Summer days at any time. Our winter months are quiet with occasional blizzards but mostly just cold weather that invites visitors to spend time in our cozy B&Bs or dining in fire lit restaurants. We also have two hotels right on the ocean, great for storm viewing.

More Information To best know what Plymouth County offers visitors and guests we suggest you order our Plymouth County Vacation Planner or better yet visit our SeePlymouth web site. We strongly suggest touring our region in your own or a rented vehicle but train and bus service is available out of Boston. The P&B bus runs frequently and local public transportation is available Monday – Saturday from their Route 3 exit 5 stop. Should you prefer to come by train, plan to take the very first train possible as the local public transportation once you arrive could have you waiting close to an hour before transporting you further to Plymouth Center or attractions.
Other Destinations Near Plymouth To Visit Once settled in Plymouth for your vacation or holiday we suggest the following day trips: In Sandwich on Cape Cod is Heritage Museums and Gardens, only 30 minutes away, or Cape Cod Central Rail tours. Onset offers tours of the Cape Cod Canal and just 45 minutes south of Plymouth The New Bedford Whaling Museum is a must see which puts you only 20 minutes from Fall River’s Battleship Cove, with a new Pearl Harbor Experience and WWII ships and boats to explore. Newport, RI is just an hour’s journey south and the Newport Mansions make that short trip well worth it. Boston, only 40 miles north, offers so much in the way of history, culture and entertainment and is easily reachable by train or bus from Plymouth. We suggest using Super Tours to discover not only the streets of Boston & Cambridge but also, from the seats of their duck boats, Boston Harbor, home to Old Ironsides.
