Description | The concession is open from 7:00am to dusk, May through October, and provides rod and tackle rentals, licenses and snacks. They are famous among the local residents for their mega delicious (and large) ice cream cones! The Discovery Pier is a Campbell River landmark providing access to high quality recreational fishing: equipment rentals are $3.00 per hour or $6.00 for a half day; everyone fishing must have a valid fishing license which you can purchase on site, online or at a local sporting goods store. An ideal setting for sightseeing and evening strolls, the structure itself is open 24 hours a day, fully lit with built-in rod holders, bait stands, fish cleaning tables, covered areas, picnic tables and benches. It is an excellent viewpoint for cruise ships, storms, and other marine wildlife (yes, sometimes whales!).
The Discovery Passage Aquarium is located at the entrance to the Pier offering fun and unique, hands-on educational experiences for people of all ages while showcasing our incredible local marine species and habitats. Open from spring until fall each year, specimens are collected from the marine environment in the spring and returned to the area of collection at the end of the season. Water is pumped with minimal filtering and no temperature control from the Discovery Passage and is returned to the Discovery Passage directly from the tanks. The tanks, essentially, are an extension of the natural marine environment. Visitors to the Discovery Passage Aquarium are invited to check out the wonderful diversity of life within our rocky tide pools, kelp forests, and eel grass beds. There are many interactive opportunities, with knowledgeable and friendly staff to engage and entertain. Both the pier and the aquarium are wheelchair accessible. |
