Description | Two day event at Washington on the Brazos State Historic Site, commemorating the 182nd anniversary of the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence from Mexico. The lush, 293 acre park will be filled with historic reenactors, period musicians and craftsmen, demonstrating the skills used when Texas was a nation. Independence Hall, Barrington Living History Farm, and the Star of the Republic Museum will offer free admission. The Texas A & M Singing Cadets are among the featured entertainers. There will also be a music stage highlighting the different cultures of Texas and featuring Native American Dancers, Mariachi bands, Polish Polka Bands, Irish music, etc. A play detailing the birth of the Lone Star State will be performed in the amphitheater. Descendants of the 59 signers of the Declaration will be recognized with a roll call during the commemorative program. Festival food vendors will be on site, and admission to the park and all venues is free. A great chance for all Texans to visit the place Where Texas Became Texas, Washington on the Brazos. |
