Description | The Southern Vermont Natural History Museum houses the historic Luman R. Nelson natural history collection. With over 600 mounted specimens and nearly 250 species represented, it is one of the largest collections of native birds and mammals in New England. The museum also exhibits live birds of prey, native fish, reptiles and amphibians as well as hands on activities for the kids and an extensive minerology collection. Adjacent to over 600 protected acres, hiking trails and spectacular views are within walking distance. Special programs, guest speakers and guided hikes are scheduled throughout the year, check the museum website or facebook page for current listings.
Conveniently located at the Hogback Mountain Scenic overlook on VT route 9 just 13 miles west of Interstate 91.
