Description | The South Shore Natural Science Center is located on 30 acres of open space surrounded by 200 acres of town conservation/recreation land consisting of meadows, woodland, and a pond. We welcome visitors year round. Voted one of Massachusetts’ 1000 Great Places to Visit by Mass Office of Travel and Tourism! Our nature center features the EcoZone, a walk through the various habitats of the South Shore of Massachusetts, complete with live animal displays featuring many native reptiles and amphibians, as well as raptors. Our trails are open dawn to dusk, easy to navigate and walk, and meander past five vernal pools, into an old field currently regenerating into forest and more.
We have education programs! We excite kids to understand and commit themselves to environmental stewardship through hands-on and engaging citizen science and STEM programs for schools, scouts and more. We have a regular series of public programs featuring the charismatic mega-fauna of the region and the world. We are a branch of the South Shore YMCA and partner with many local non-profit and governmental agencies to work on new ways to inspire the budding scientists of our region. |
