Description | San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park’s fleet of floating National Historic Landmarks, includes the 1886 square-rigger Balclutha (exhibit “Cargo is King”); the 1895 schooner C.A. Thayer; the 1891 scow schooner Alma; the 1890 ferryboat Eureka (antique auto collection); the 1914 paddlewheel tug Eppleton Hall; and the 1907 steam tugboat Hercules. The Museum (current exhibit: "Maritime Arts - At Sea and Ashore" showcases remarkable examples of work from the sailors' trade) features exhibits, colorful wall-to-wall murals, and other artwork. The Visitor Center includes “The Waterfront,” a walk-through exhibit of San Francisco maritime history. The Maritime Research Center offers a reading room with a Bay view, and access to an extensive collection of photographs, and other historic documents. Join guided tours, picnic, see steam-engines, learn about traditional sailor’s crafts, experience living-history demonstrations, join in on a sea chantey (first Saturday of every month aboard an historic vessel), or take a ranger-led Bay sail aboard Alma. Hyde Street Pier, Museum, Visitor Center, Aquatic Park, and Library free. Entrance fee: seven-day boarding pass for historic ships: $10 adults (free ages 15 and under, and with National Park passes). |
