| Description | Four Spanish frontier missions, part of a colonization system that stretched across the Spanish Southwest in the 17th, 18th, 19th centuries, are preserved here. They include Missions San Jose, San Juan, Espada, and Concepcion. The park, containing many cultural sites along with some natural areas, was established in 1978. The park covers about 819 acres. *********************************** Volunteer Opportunity, now through November 2004 Archeological Dig at Mission Concepcin Have you ever wanted to participate in an archeological excavation? Here is your opportunity to learn from professional archeologists, while helping in the preservation of historic 18th century ruins. Volunteers will be given an overview and training. No experience or tools are necessary. Teenagers are welcome; parent/guardian must sign volunteer form before work starts. Digs will be every Tuesday and Thursday during September, October, and November (except 11/11 and 11/25) from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. Regular volunteer days will continue on the second Saturday of each month. Mission Concepcin is located at 807 Mission Road.
