Description | Northup Dam features a tranquil waterfall, the result of an old milldam on Raccoon Creek. The 1937 flood washed away the mill. This was a man-made dam, once owned by the Harrington's. The Blessing family originally owned the land. Abraham Blessing was one, among half a dozen pioneer settlers of the township. The family assumed a leadership role in the development of the area, and was responsible for founding the first gristmill on Raccoon Creek in 1810. A store operated there for many years, then was moved to a new location on Lincoln Pike, where it still is in use. |
