DescriptionMt. Equinox is the tallest mountain in southwestern Vermont. At the entrance to the toll road which takes you to the summit, there is a gift shop where you can pay the toll. There are picnic areas, and a scenic overlook where you can look down in the valley and see the only Carthusian monastery in the United States. At the summit you can enter the St. Bruno Scenic Viewing Center, which offers a panoramic view of the surrounding mountain peaks and terrain. The center itself houses a museum which covers the history and more information about the Carthusian Order of the Catholic Church. There are hiking trails and with special permission, there is a takeoff point for hang glider enthusiasts. Located near the beautiful town of Manchester, Vermont,as well as the historic covered bridges crossing over prime trout fishing streams, lodging is plentiful and diverse, from B & Bs to rustic roadside Motels.Entrance to the toll road is located on HWY 7A one mile north of Arlington,Vt. Vt.
