DescriptionMarin County Convention & Visitors Bureau in San Rafael, CA

Marin County is just a little out there. As in, one famous bridge away from San Francisco. And right next door to the vineyards of Napa and Sonoma. Closer than you could ever imagine to everything that’s unique in this clever corner of California.
There’s hang gliding and kayaking. Fresh, sustainable agriculture. The pinnacle of luxury and the world’s finest wines. All here in this special place. The home of holistic artists and goat cheese artisans. The birthplace of mountain biking and Obi Wan Kenobi. The natural habitat of those grateful for nature and of the Grateful Dead.
You can lounge on a beach. Or you can launch yourself from a mountain and soar 2000 feet to the ocean's break. You can go to dinner. Or you can visit the ranches and farms that supply some of the finest restaurants in the world. There's no such thing as a typical Marin County vacation. Because there's nothing "typical" in Marin.

Sleep next to nature. Or in the lap of luxury! The lodging in Marin is as diverse as the land. Camp under the stars. Sequester yourself in a beachside bungalow. Stay with a trusted favorite hotel. Or discover the heights of indulgence at a no-compromises resort. However you want to rest your head, Marin can make it feel like home.

Marin County is well known for its arts, entertainment and culture. The County is proud of its home-grown Marin Symphony that plays to sell-out audiences each season. The Marin Ballet, Marin Opera and Marin Theater Company offer professional performances to appreciative local audiences. The Mountain Play, one of the longest running theater companies in Marin, performs its annual Broadway musical production in a huge amphitheatre at the top of Mount Tamalpais. The Marin Center in San Rafael is the venue for national and international music, theater and dance productions and numerous exhibitions throughout the year.

Outdoor recreation – hiking, running, mountain biking, horseback riding, and all manner of water sports including sail boarding, surfing, fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing – is what Marin County is all about. Additionally, seasonal phenomena like the migration of whales, bird watching, garden tours, and wildlife and scenic painting and photography are unique features of Marin. Marin has a variety of beaches, great for beachcombing, tide-pooling, wave-watching, bird watching, sun bathing, kayaking, and boating.
West Marin is the rural region of Marin County, consisting of open space, rolling hills, agriculture, winding roads, wilderness, and coastal views...nature at its best alongside the Point Reyes National Seashore.

Point Reyes is not only a lifestyle, but an experience that should take some time to enjoy. The area is reminiscent of a European countryside village, set up alongside the coast. There are a variety of activities to keep you busy during your stay here...from exploring beaches and wildlife, to biking, hiking, kayaking, and horseback riding, as well as agri-tourism tours and seminars. Most importantly, West Marin is considered by some to be the birthplace of the organic food movement in this country. Today this area continues to be on the cutting edge of the trend towards producing and consuming sustainably organic foods. Scattered throughout this area are organic delectibles and interesting finds in their eclectic, but charming shopping and dining venues.

So come take a vacation from the typical vacation. The question is, where do you want to start?
